After our unscheduled overnight in Carlisle (which really worked to our advantage) we headed off to Vindolanda, Roman ruins. An picturesque area in the north of England filled with remnants of the Roman occupation (79 ad). The archaeologists have uncovered the most extensive collection of shoes of all shapes, sizes and styles. The Emperor Hadrian had a field day in these parts, how he managed the wall is a mystery in itself. Still a little unsure of it's true purpose, perhaps lost somewhere in the last 2000 years!
Scotland bound and the temperature begins a nose dive !! We crossed the border attempted photos in the rain, wind and sleet.
Edinburgh - an exciting afternoon, the Castle, for too many reasons to mention - exquisite ! Maree once again saw another style of architecture, each one filling in more of the jigsaw that builds the uniqueness of the United Kingdom!
Greyfriars Bobby, The Royal Mile and Mums Comfort Food restaurant, (formerly Monster Mash) - definitely one of my most favourite places in Edinburgh (and possibly Maree's now too). Yes, Mama and Mum they would give you a run for your money !!
Then BED, long day - not helped by the cross cultural confusion regarding the carpark - that story is best saved till we get home !!
Cheers Michelle x
