After an early start from Stratford we we making good time on the freeway around Birmingham we slowed down then came to a complete halt. Cars stopped for as far as the eye could see. A few people were even out of their cars having a look around but they had to run back as soon as we started moving again. Well that delayed us 40mins but it was pretty uneventful until we got to Liverpool (home of the Beatles) the GPS had a bit of a problem but we got to the Albert Dock and the Museum.
The Beatles exhibition was fantastic we both loved it. Liverpool itself gave us the impression of being sad and run down but of course we didn't see a great deal of it.
We continued on north into Cumbria to the town of Windermere in the Lakes District. An unbelievable town full of gorgeous little stone cottages and quaint shops. We had ignored the GPS so that we could see Windermere, therefore when we wanted to go on to our destination of Watermiilock it sent us on what I now call The Great Kirkstone Pass Adventure. Michelle drove for miles on a road big enough for a horse and cart, with yes, stone walls on both sides. Ok, the country side was absolutely beautiful, so it was a trade off.
After a few close calls we arrived at the Brackenrigg Inn and found that they had stuffed up our booking, that Michelle had already confirmed, and they only had one single room left. The girl found us a room at a nearby hotel but when we got there it was locked up and it looked like nobody was there. A man came after I rang a bell and although he was nice we decided to push on to a town called Carlise even though it was already 6pm. In the car we looked up on the net a couple of places but decided on Cumbria Park Hotel which had seen better days but it was full of pensioners so we figured that was a good sign. It's been unseasonably warm in England so it was a bit stuffy but at least we had a bed. Drink in the bar then off to bed.
